A day off

I recently took a job, after a fairly relaxing and non-productive nine month silicon-valley sabbatical. As part of my deal for coming out of retirement, I didn't want to work full time. I think largely that was a ploy to make sure nobody would want to hire me. It didn't really work, and so now I have a 60% job. At some point I need to ramble on how 60% of 40 may well still be 40, but not now. Today was the first day I didn't show up for work, after three weeks. Some of those days were half-days, and lots were training lectures, and honestly, in the first few weeks I think I better get in some bonus face-time so I can at least not be a stranger at the meetings.

What I did today:</ul>
  • Went to Linda and Jack's wedding. Very nice, mostly traditional-non-religious-with-some-interfaith-mish-mosh-stuff wedding. It was at the San Jose Museum of Art, a great place. Though I flashed on: "what if you reserved the place a year in advance and had to get married in front of a Francis Bacon retrospective or something.
  • Bolted from the reception to take a tour of the Palo Alto Airport's control tour, and hang with the controllers. San Jose Airport has 250,000 take-offs and landings a year. Palo Alto has 220,000. Fun for geeks.
  • Read too much email
  • Went to Filoli Gardens. Really wonderful. The tulips are up, as are the weeping cherry trees, and ummm lots of other stuff.
  • Went to the Y to go rock climbing, and now hurt.
  • Not started yet, but gonna watch some Soprano's episodes on the couch, curled up with the dog.

I'll research this more later, but figured I'd ask you first. Do you know of any schools on the west coast with a similar program to the Science…

    • So, how goes the pursuit of different ambitions for folks?

I just recently finished up a six-week class on how to run a small/home-based business, and feel marginally less completely unprepared for starting…

    • On a more serious note, an intro.

Just to possibly get the ball rolling and sort of express why I decided to start this thing (aside from it being elynne's fault). I used…
